Tre Cime di Lavaredo (their German name being 'Drei Zinnen')
is presumably the most famous landmark of the Dolomites.
These are photos of a grand cloudy sunset with a pretty long-lasting rainbow in the east
and of a calm colorful sunrise hike around the three pinnacles.
One can get to Auronzo Hut at 2,333 m by car, yet this requires taking a toll road where they charge you 22€ for going up and down within 24 hours, which is ridiculously overpriced given that the road section in question is just 6 km long. Alternatives are to take the public service bus SAD line 445 (see also SII timetables) or to hike, where routes from various directions exist.
A GPS recording of the circuit I took is available for download as GPX file or
KML file for Google Earth.
It can be directly viewed on Google Terrain Maps (including waypoints) and on GPSies (including waypoints and statistics).
